ISTE outlines that "teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behaviour in their professional practices". This standard is further explored by the following actions:

• advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
• address the diverse needs of learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
• promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
• develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools

This week we will explore how teachers can model digital citizenship. Finding safe and social ways to provide digital learning opportunities for teachers and students is presented. Exploring tools such as Passport to the Internet, Digital Passport, Media Smarts and Common Sense Media will assist teachers to provide lessons in safe, social ways to work with technology. The final task is to explore information about copyright and fair use for educators, students and digital content creators.

One skill is knowing how to use and apply licensing with Creative Commons in your digital teaching and learning practices.
